Who is qualified to vote Absentee?
Persons registered* to vote in Kane County excluding the City of
Aurora ** are eligible to cast an absentee ballot with the Kane County Clerk's Office.
**The City of Aurora is a separate election commission. Please contact
their office at 630-897-4030 to obtain information on absentee voting.
In addition, the following unregistered voters are eligible to
vote by absentee ballot:
- Members of the Armed Forces or Merchant Marine and their spouses and dependents whether serving in the
United States or abroad;
- U.S. citizens and their spouses or dependents, whose permanent residence is in Kane County but who will
be temporarily residing abroad on election day;
- U.S. citizens (not their spouses or dependents) who maintained a residence in Kane County immediately prior
to their departure from the United States.
How to Obtain an Absentee Ballot
By Mail
You may request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you. The last day we can mail you a ballot is 5 days
prior to the election. To request an absentee ballot, email us at
elections@co.kane.il.us
or call our office at (630) 232-5990. The ballot needs to be postmarked by the day before the election
and must be in our office within two weeks after the election.
Please note that if you will be out of the country for the election, you must complete and return an
FPCA form.
ELECTION MAIL CANNOT BE FORWARDED
*Persons who have registered by mail without providing identification and will be voting for the first time are
not eligible to vote absentee by mail. They may vote absentee in person at the County Clerk's Office or may
vote early.
In Person
You may vote absentee in person at the County Clerk's office beginning 40 days prior to an election until the
day before the election. If you are unable to come to our office to vote and would rather not vote by mail,
you may vote early at locations spread thoughout the county.
Early voting begins 22 days prior to the election through 4 days prior
to the election.

Illinois State Statute requires voters who are incapacitated to complete an
Application for Absentee Voter's 5 Year Identification Card form* along
with an Affidavit of Attending Physician* in
order to automatically be sent an absentee ballot application for incapacitated
voter for every election within 5 years after we receive the application.

Members of the Uniformed Services and their family members or U.S. citizens
residing overseas whose last known address is in Kane County and wish to vote
absentee may do so by completing and mailing an FPCA (Federal
Post Card Application)* to Kane County Clerk's Office, P.O. Box 70,
Geneva, IL 60134. By completing this application, you will automatically
be sent an absentee ballot for every election through 2 general
elections.
Licensed or certified Illinois Nursing Homes will
provide election judges to conduct in person absentee voting to (registered)
residents at those facilities who wish to vote.
Voters who enter the hospital five days or less before an election are eligible to have an absentee ballot brought to them. Contact our office at 630-232-5990 to find out more.
